[hylafax-users] Newbie needs modem help - I Think

I am a new Hylafax user.  I have installed the latest
hylafax-4.1beta3-1rh7.i386.rpm on RH6.2, standard kernel out
of the box.

I have run faxsetup, faxaddmodem, etc and all seems to be
installed and running correctly.  I installed WHFC on one
client and it can talk to the HylaFax server.

So far so good.

The site is a send only site but I have faxgetty running
from init.  The modem is a local Australian no name brand,
rockwell chip set, 56K.

I have tried faxing a file:

sendfax -f "user@mydomain.com.au" -R -r "faxsubject" -c
"coverpage comments" -x "Recipients Company" -d
"username@5551234" /tmp/colour.ps

I have tried this to a number of different fax machines and
the result is always as follows.

our facsimile job to 5551234 was not sent because:
    DTE to DCE data underflow

The job will be retried at 16:58.

Where am I going wrong and what do I need to do to get this
to work.  I have tried sending text files as well as ps
files but the result is the same.
