It should handle it ok.

If you power off the modem while HylaFAX is sending a fax, maybe it will
be stuck for a while trying hard to complete the job.

You should get mail from HylaFAX telling you the modem has problems.

If you use faxgetty it may, or may not,  happen that it will respawn too
fast while the modem is off, and init will disable it for 5 minutes, if
this is the case you can wait 5mins or do "init q".
