You either need to alter these lines in typerules (specifically -p value):

-- line 129 of typerules --

# This causes anything else with ascii-only data to be treated as text.
#

                                                -Ml=0.4in -p 11 -s %s >%o <%i

Or... read the textfmt manpage, although I'm not so sure if those
config-read settings will override these or not.
