This is from the german manual of a toshiba-laptop-build-in-modem: @ Wait for period of silence. After dialing the number, the modem waits for a pause of 5 seconds. If this pause does not finish the modem reports NO ANSWER. NO CARRIER carrier lost or carrier not recognized or answering tone not recognized NO ANSWER dialed party did not pick up this is the original text, maybe someone can do a better translation: "Warten auf Ruhepause. Das Modem wartet nach dem W�hlen der Nummer auf eine fuenf Sekunden dauernde Pause.
