Simply omitting the -o option in the useradd line isn't enough, it results in: =================== You do not appear to have a "fax" user in the password file. HylaFAX needs this to work properly, add it [yes]? There was a problem adding user "fax" to /etc/passwd; the command failed with: "user id 10 (uucp) already exists" HylaFAX will not work until you have corrected this problem. =================== Tim Rice had a better idea of writing the "fax" user directly rather than through useradd.
