The advandage of Class1 is that it's quite simple yet powerful (and easy to implement for modem manufactured), so most Class1 firmwares are error-free and will work the same way with the same software. They were entirely software-related (i.e. they were the bugs in Hylafax Class1 driver). Most problems, known to me, has already been fixed. Of course, it's possible that some unknown bugs are still there. But now I use Class 1 in the production environment (with Zyxel 1496), and it works quite good.
