Hi. I've scanned the arhives for similar problems to this, and as fas as I can tell the jury is still out on using ethernet terminal servers with class 2 modems. If I use a Multi-Tech MT1932ZDXK on a hardwired serial port everything works fine - faxes send with no problem whatsoever. However, if I try and set the same modem up on the EL16 server - drivers for which make a device file which appears just like any other modem device - I start having problems. Sometimes batches of faxes send no problem, but then I start getting "Unknown problem (check modem power)" errors, and only one in six tries will succeed. We run IRIX (6.5.6f), so I've tried using the ttym* and ttyf* devices (no different). Does anyone have any suggestions which might improve matters? I'm sure it must be possible to use ethernet servers for this kind of thing. How else do ISPs like Demon Internet provide the mass fax->mail gateways which require *huge* amounts of modems? I've included a sample log file ... -- David Coles, System Administrator, Southern Studios davidc@southern.com May 04 20:37:07.63: [28307]: SESSION BEGIN 00000136 442088880423 May 04 20:37:07.63: [28307]: SEND FAX: JOB 54 DEST +44 20 8888 0423 COMMID 00000136 May 04 20:37:07.65: [28307]: DELAY 2600 ms May 04 20:37:10.52: [28307]: <-- [15:ATE0V1Q0S0=0H0\r] May 04 20:37:15.51: [28307]: MODEM <Timeout> May 04 20:37:15.51: [28307]: <-- [5:ATM0\r] May 04 20:37:15.60: [28307]: --> [4:ATM0] May 04 20:37:15.60: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:15.61: [28307]: <-- [12:AT+FCLASS=2\r] May 04 20:37:15.73: [28307]: --> [11:AT+FCLASS=2] May 04 20:37:15.73: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:15.73: [28307]: <-- [10:AT+FTBC=0\r] May 04 20:37:15.84: [28307]: --> [9:AT+FTBC=0] May 04 20:37:15.84: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:15.84: [28307]: <-- [10:AT+FBOR=0\r] May 04 20:37:15.96: [28307]: --> [9:AT+FBOR=0] May 04 20:37:15.96: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:15.96: [28307]: <-- [13:AT+FPHCTO=30\r] May 04 20:37:16.08: [28307]: --> [12:AT+FPHCTO=30] May 04 20:37:16.08: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:16.08: [28307]: <-- [24:AT+FDCC=1,5,2,2,0,0,0,0\r] May 04 20:37:16.19: [28307]: --> [23:AT+FDCC=1,5,2,2,0,0,0,0] May 04 20:37:16.19: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:16.19: [28307]: <-- [24:AT+FLID="+442088896166"\r] May 04 20:37:16.31: [28307]: --> [23:AT+FLID="+442088896166"] May 04 20:37:16.31: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:16.33: [28307]: DIAL 02088880423 May 04 20:37:16.33: [28307]: <-- [17:ATDT02088880423@\r] May 04 20:37:47.28: [28307]: --> [16:ATDT02088880423@] May 04 20:37:47.28: [28307]: SEND FAILED: Unknown problem (check modem power) May 04 20:37:47.28: [28307]: <-- [5:ATH0\r] May 04 20:37:47.28: [28307]: --> [5:+FCON] May 04 20:37:48.82: [28307]: --> [7:+FHNG:2] May 04 20:37:48.82: [28307]: REMOTE HANGUP: Call aborted, from +FK or <CAN> (code 2) May 04 20:37:49.42: [28307]: --> [2:OK] May 04 20:37:49.45: [28307]: SESSION END
