Re: Problems receiving faxes

One year later ...

Hi All!

SINCE having problems receiving faxes with my Creatix LC 144 VFI with
proper
status at the sender I searched the flexfax-mailing-archive.

Here I found an one year old thread covering my problem (inserted at the
end of this message), but no solution. Maybe I searched not hard enough.

Tracking down the problem (comparing the hylafax communication with
those of other fax-systems) it seems to be a problem with the
data-compression-format (using 2-D modified read - DF=1).

Setting the faxmodem capabilities to be only capable of using 1-D
modified Huffman - DF=0 solves the
problem for me.

STEPS that solves my problem (living without 2-D modified read):

1. Check the modem capabilities
(Logfile output or by entering the AT-Command in a terminal session)
AT+FDCC=?
Output for my Modem:
(0,1),(0-5),(0-2),(0-2),(0,1),0,0,(0-7)
                          ^
                          |

                         DF-Capabilities

2. Take this string and modify DF to only be capable of 1-D modified
Huffmann:

(0,1),(0-5),(0-2),(0-2),0,0,0,(0-7)

3. Configuration parameters - modify the config.<device>:

Class2DCCQueryCmd: !(0,1),(0-5),(0-2),(0-2),0,0,0,(0-7)

Of course the other parameters has to be set properly for the faxmodem.

As a result (after new parameter is active) the log no longer say

Dec 08 12:41:41.12: [27662]: REMOTE wants 2-D MR

the session just uses 1-D Huffman.

The formerly error-Status (page bad, retain requested)

Dec 08 12:41:47.56: [27662]: --> [17:+FPTS: 2,2219,0,0]

changed to page good:

[17:+FPTS: 1,2219,0,0]

May this help everybody who's searching for a solution for the same
problem - and may it just by increasing the redundancy.

Bye

Matthias
