I had a look at that in the hope that it generated less verbose Postscript
than Windows for the generation of PDF with ghostscript; in a sense it
does, but the resulting PDF would be no less verbose.

However, on reading the licence conditions, I would say it would
be illegal to use it with ghostscript except to print from Adobe
applications.  The wording of the licence is a bit confusing, but the most
sensible interpretation is that there must be some paid for Adobe software
involved in its use; either in the printer or in the source application.

What the Adobe driver does is to re-arrange this into the equivalent
of:

(This i....t) [ 493 343 234 341 334 123 ....343 ]

but with smaller numbers, either because they use a different scale or
because they code the difference from the natural length of the
character.
