flexfax: 'Make' for tiff v3.4 beta 035 errors

I am trying to get Hylafax compiled and installed on a FreeBSD 3.1 system.
However, it complains about needing TIFF libraries.  So, I downloaded the
tiffv3.4beta035 tarball from ftp.hylafax.org.  The compile went fine and I
specified a different directory for the HTML docs, but that is all from
the normal ./configue.  So then I move on to 'make'.  And then I get this
cryptic error....how do I fix it?
