Hi Simon,

Many of your errors are normal configure is testing for what does and does
not work on your system.  Provided the configure script does not abort out
half way through it is probaly alright to continue to the make stage.  If
something fails at the make stage then look back into the config.log for
suspicious stuff.

You might want to check your system anyway that it has the full set of
development libraries, headers  and compiler installed just in case.
