Does this device and its driver emulate a simple serial port connected
to an EIA class 1, 2 or 2.0 fax modem?

I may be missing something, but why do people keep asking about hylafax
over ISDN, when the number of G4 (real ISDN) fax machines in the world
must be a mere handful, and those who have them are likely to prefer email
these days.

G3 analogue fax support requires that either the TA emulate a modem,
in which case the answer will be in the documentation for the TA, or 
that the host does the required digital signal processing, a tactic
generally restricted to the cheaper kinds of winmodems on single user
desk top systems, and even then I have not heard of any open source
software for this purpose.
