Edmond, please send questions like this to the HylaFAX mailing llist
(flexfax@sgi.com). I can only speak for the PPI FXMT and Zyxel 1496
and Zoom 14.4 and USR 33.6 Sportster internal and Performa 33.6
external I have gotten working. Most modern modems work fine with
some technical time spent working out the details: good modems
with *MANUALS* and a technical support department that answers their
phone can be cajoled into supporting the full range of HylaFAX
services.

I recommend Zyxel, because their tech support has been wonderful with
the HylaFAX and Linux community. Zoom modems should only be used as
door stops....

I personally run a fax/modem pool of 4 modems and have installed
several dozen different versions of HylaFAX and modems and operating
systems altogether, some as a consultant. It's quite flexible and this
mailing list is very good with solving subtle problems.
