If you have a Hayes compatible modem, somewhere in the setup a X4 command is sent to the modem which - among other things - tells it to wait for a dial tone. Try to locate it and change it to X3. With my USR Sportster it's the following line when configuring it with faxaddmodem: ModemResultCodesCmd: ATQ0X4 This should read ModemResultCodesCmd: ATQ0X3 The default setting can be changed in the corresponding modem description file in the config directory.
