gcc is only one of the patches you'll need for RedHat 5.0.

There is a set of patches at http://cirl.meei.harvard.edu/hylafax/ that
you are welcome to use. Some were written by me, the gcc patch was
posted by someone else on this list.

If they don't work out for you, let us know.
