I've used 14.4 Zoom modems. They suck. They have the classic errors of
the Rockwell chipset, Zoom has (or had, since it's been a few years)
no usable tech support, no clue about UNIX, and when I sent them a 5
page fax with one page of ranting and 4 pages of workarounds for SunOS
tip, kermit, and flexfax, they sent me a fax from their tech support
with a bunch of SCO init strings. Did I mention that the SCO init
strings were blatantly wrong?

Zoom believed that low price and first to market were the important
factors and cared nothing for quality (an old roommate who was the
only UNIX knowledgable person at Zoom explained this to me).

I doubt they've changed.
