Some fax machines don't acknowledge page receipt

I have been using hylafax on a linux machine running redhat 3.0.3 for a
whiole and everything has been running great. But just recently I
upgraded to redhat 4.1, after that I have not been able to get faxes to
work correctly. The kernel had also been upgraded from 1.2.13 to 2.0.27.
I have downloaded later versions of hylafax and binary distributions,
tried different modem configurations, but no matter what I do some fax
machines still give me problems.

Some fax machines that I send to receive a page fine but hylafax doesn;t
think so and sends it again. people end up getting 9 identical pages and
then the fax will fail. Here is the part of the script where it fails

Your facsimile job to 14176784335 failed because:
Unable to transmit page (giving up after 3 attempts); Giving up after 3 attempts to send same page
